Shanna began her pursuit of knowledge in the field of science beginning in high school, taking courses such as molecular genetics, anatomy & physiology, biology, and chemistry. In 2007, she completed a molecular genetics internship at Mount Saint Mary's University where she used the ELISA assay technique to investigate a correlation between low serum alpha-1 antitrypsin and autism under the tutelage of Dr. Anthony J. Russo. She was also the Vice President of the National Chinese Honors Society and received the Meritorious Service Contributors Honor.
She first attended the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and received her Bachelors of Science in General Science with a concentration in Biology as well as a minor in the Chinese language. At Penn State, she was involved in a number of organizations such as the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-medical Honors Society, the Pre-Dental Society, as well as Penn State Hillel.

In the Spring of 2010, Dr. Mark and Shanna had the opportunity through the Penn State’s Pre-Dental Society to travel to the Dominican Republic and volunteer with Orphanage Outreach, a U.S. based nonprofit. Together they opened an ad hoc clinic which offered dental services gratuitously to the community. They helped treat patients of all ages who were suffering from severe pain, extensive tooth decay, and missing teeth. They also visited local schools where they provided dental education to young, curious students.

To My Patients

by Dr. Albert E. Postal, D.D.S.
December 1, 2002
As many of you may know, 2002 marks my forty-third year in dental practice; it has been over a third of a century since I first began providing dental care! Whether you have been with me since my earliest days in practice or are one my third generation patients, I have been honored by so many loyal relationships. But the years have taken their toll; due to a shoulder injury, I have been forced to retire from the practice of dentistry.

However, your future care is very important to me and I have conducted a careful search for the right successor to assure the best possible care of my patients. I feel very fortunate to have found an accomplished dentist, Dr. Marvin Mark, here in Silver Spring, who has agreed to assume the care of my patients. Dr. Mark has broad dental skills and extensive experience, as well as a passion for excellence. I can assure you that he will provide you with state-of-the-art dental care.

Dr. Mark received his Masters Degree in Physiology, and Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology and Anatomy from the University of Michigan. After graduating from the University of Michigan he was selected to enter a unique program at the Medical College of Georgia, where he taught in the Anatomy and Cell Biology Department of the Dental School while receiving his dental training. Dr. Mark received his DMD from the Medical College of Georgia in 1982. That same year Dr. Mark moved to Washington DC after accepting a General Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center. In addition to serving in the Dental Service of the VA hospital, Dr. Mark performed basic medical research there. In 1987 Dr. Mark joined the faculty of Georgetown School of Dentistry, where he taught until the closing of the dental school.

Dr. Mark went into private practice in 1990. In addition to serving the community as a family practitioner, Dr. Mark has received extensive additional training in Implantology, Endodontics, and Cosmetic Dentistry. His office is a state-of-the-art facility, including Digital X-ray, which dramatically reduces your exposure to radiation!

In my attempt to make your transition easier, I have transferred all your dental records to Dr. Mark's office and have forwarded the office phone to his office as well. Hence, you may continue to call 301-587-7667. Dr. Mark's office is located at Doctors Medical Park West, 10301 Georgia Avenue, Suite 307, Silver Spring, MD 20902. His telephone number is 301-593-4200. I have enclosed his business card for your convenience.

Thank you again for your trust and confidence in me, and for your friendship. Please accept my best wishes for a healthy and happy New Year.

Sincerely,
Albert E. Postal, D.D.S.
